 Schoolhouse with children

In 1910, farmers of the Tusculum Community saw the need for a school. They bought a tract of land for the school from Joe McPherson, and the County Board of Education built a two-room frame building with a hallway between the two rooms. The building was located on the east side of Nolensville Road. Tusculum Elementary opened in 1911. In 1936 a new school was erected on the west side of Nolensville Road on its present site. It consisted of five rooms and a basement cafeteria. Five additions were made to the original structure. By 1954, Tusculum grew to be the largest county elementary school in Davidson County. Soon other schools were built to lessen the enrollment. In 1974, the 1936 structure was torn away and the original building is no longer standing, having been replaced by the present building.
